Information About CEUs

In order to maintain certification, interpreters must complete 8.0 CEUs within their 4 year cycle. To learn more about RID CEUS, go to http://rid.org/continuing-education/

ASL Interpreting Services is an approved sponsor for ALL types of CEU activities.

If you would like to request CEU Sponsorship for an activity, please complete the appropriate form below. Please allow 2-3 weeks prior to activity start to get sponsor approval. Questions or concerns can be emailed to CEUsponsor@aslis.com for further assistance.

For any interpreters whose cycle end date is December of this current year, to guarantee CEU sponsorship before the end of the year you MUST complete any activity no later than November 1^st.

Academic Coursework:

Any course taken through an accredited college or university is eligible for either General Studies (GS) or Professional Studies (PS). ASLIS, as the sponsor, will help determine which one the particular class may be applied to.

Cost: $30 per class

Independent Study:

This type of activity is designed to be very open ended and flexible to meet individual needs. It would encompass any activity that is undertaken on your own, such as mentoring, research projects, study groups, or anything of that nature.

Typical # CEUs Earned: 1.0 – 2.0 – limit
Cost: $75 per activity

Participant Initiated Non RID Activity (PINRA):

These activities are usually workshops/seminars/conferences that don’t already have a built in RID sponsor. A wide variety of events can fall under a PINRA, from community education classes to national speakers. Check with ASLIS to approve your activity BEFORE it starts.

Typical # CEUs Earned: 0.1 – 1.5 – no limit
Cost: $50 per activity

Sponsor Activities:

Better known as workshops, ASLIS tries to hold multiple workshops every year that interpreters can register for and attend. This type of activity involves no paperwork on the interpreter’s part. In addition to holding our own, ASLIS will also sponsor workshops for groups (MADC, MNLoon, ASLTA, MState, etc.) who would like to offer CEUs, but are not sponsors themselves.

Typical # CEUs Earned: 0.3 – 1.2 – no limit
Cost: Varies, depending on the workshop.
