Have you been on deck for an assignment when something came out of left field? This is our chance to touch base and step up to the plate to learn more. This workshop will help you get to the Big League without striking out. This workshop takes a closer look at some of the everyday idioms that persist in our American English vernacular and look for their origin. We will examine the role and purpose of idioms and examine how their confluence with our work can cause challenges.
Educational Objectives:
- Better able to identify idioms.
- Create a bank of knowledge around idioms their intended meanings.
- Reduce anxiety and wait times around these terms in our interpreting process.
- Identify other comparable English features where the words themselves combine to create meaning beyond their original intent.
- Cultivating a professional approach to extracting meaning from English and working smarter to provide it in a visual format that matches the cultural and linguistics needs of ASL.
