ASLIS is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Professional Studies program is offered for a total of 0.4 CEUs at Some Content Knowledge Level.
In this workshop we explore register in both ASL and English. We will identify and then compare and contrast markers in both
– Discover and identify markers of register in English and ASL
– Compare and contrast the markers between the two languages
– Identify how the interactive concept of Presentation of Self (as introduced in Role-Space, Llewellyn-Jones & Lee, 2014) affects our perception of register
– Utilize this new paradigm to identify register in source ASL videotapes, and articulate what factors leads to those decisions, and if those decisions have a new valence as a result of this workshop.
*MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CEUS. We will not be approving partial CEU credits.*

Stephanie Feyne is an interpreter with over 35 years’ experience. She lives in New York City, where she interprets in community settings, with an emphasis in arts, education and legal. She has been faculty in interpreter education programs in NYC and CA, and was also one of the four instructors for the annual national Interpreting for the Theatre Seminar. She has been offering workshops nationwide for over 20 years. Aspects of her research on the impact of interpreter choices on the perception of Deaf professionals were published by both Gallaudet University Press and the International Association of Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS).
