Event Details
During an interpreting encounter, there are countless instances where the interpreter must step in to offer strategic mediation or seek further assistance. However, how these interventions are made may not always incorporate the essential soft skills for rapport-building. How interpreters convey their messages can greatly influence the interaction dynamics and shape the profession’s perception. In this workshop, we will explore typical scenarios interpreters encounter when intervention is needed, particularly in the face of significant challenges. Through scripted exercises and role-playing opportunities, we will practice employing soft skills that foster rapport, instill trust, and showcase collaborative engagement with participants.
Educational Objectives:
After this workshop, interpreters will be better:
1. Equipped to discuss the impact different communication styles have on encounters, participants, and the profession.
2. Prepared to apply scripting for diverse encounters where strategic mediation is critical to the success of the encounter.
ASLIS virtual workshops are NOT recorded for later viewing.
