Event Details
Pilates is a renowned fitness and rehabilitation method that has continued to gain following over the decades. During this workshop we explore the foundations and history of this method as well seek to make practical application of the pilates to the field of interpreting. The presentation will allow for slow paced active participation and offer multiple modifications so that interpreters of varying fitness levels can benefit.
Educational Objectives:
Attendees will be able to demonstrate understanding of the history of the Pilates method as well as identify and demonstrate multiple movement patterns that are part of foundational mat pilates. Finally we will review how these methods improve the overall mobility associated with ASL interpreting.

Presenter Bio
Joel has dedicated more than 23 years to the field of physical therapy, developing a deep expertise in movement, recovery, and injury prevention. A certified movement specialist and graduate of Loma Linda University’s School of Allied Health Professions, Joel brings both clinical knowledge and practical strategies to his work. In addition to his healthcare background, he is also an NIC-certified American Sign Language interpreter. This unique combination allows Joel to address the physical demands interpreters face, particularly with pain management and mobility challenges. By blending his two professions, he creates accessible, movement-based solutions that help interpreters sustain their health and thrive in their work.
