Educational Objective:
1) Identify unique characteristics of the mental health & substance abuse settings.
2) Apply the RID Code of Professional Conduct to the unique dynamics of these settings.
3) Understand the techniques of sign-to-voice interpreting when dealing with form disordered discourse.
Educational Objective:
1)Recognize how to handle situations where the RID Code of Professional Conduct needs to be seen as a prescriptive
2)rather than proscriptive tool.
3)Identify situations where the interpreter can be used as a therapeutic ally.
4)Identify special settings requiring specific techniques including: testing, children, intellectual disability

Presenter Bio
Bridget Sabatke, MS, QMHI-S, NIC-Master, has been working in the Twin Cities Metro area since 2005. In 2013 she graduated with her master’s degree in interpreting pedagogy from the University of North Florida. Bridget had the opportunity to work with the Behavioral Health Interpreting program under the CATIE Center designing learning materials on the topics of addiction and recovery and domestic and sexual violence. In 2020 she transitioned to her current position as an Assistant Professor at St. Catherine University interpreting program where she is now the chair of the ASL & Interpreting Department. In her spare time she cherishes her time with her husband, two teenagers, and too many pets.
Mr. Williams is the owner of Hands On Interpreting, LLC, a private practice specializing in consulting and training related to the needs of deaf adults in the mental health system. Until his retirement in 2023, he was employed as the Executive Director of the Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. He received his B.S.W. from the Rochester Institute of Technology, his M.S.W., specializing in community mental health, from the University of Illinois and completed coursework towards a doctorate at the University of South Carolina, College of Social Work. Mr. Williams is licensed in Florida and South Carolina as a Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practice/Supervisor and holds an RID Certificate of Transliteration and an SCAD/NAD IAP Level 5 and has been recognized at the state and national level for his leadership in mental health services within the Deaf community.
