How many times has this scenario happened to you? Your co-worker seems pretty busy and instead of asking you for help, they ask someone else at work. What about this situation? You’re talking with a co-worker about something in-depth and they give you a blank stare and you have no idea what are they thinking. Here’s a similar story. After explaining a work procedure to a co-worker, they just give you a certain face expression and you are not really sure what to do with that. This class will help you improve communication with co-workers. I grew up hearing and when I was young I was quite humorous. Kids laughed at my jokes and enjoyed my good stories. Later I became an interpreter and I was very excited to join the Deaf community to tell my funny stories. Except I found out they weren’t funny and I was boring. I needed to learn a new way to communicate in the Deaf community. I had been interpreting various work related jobs and while interpreting I could obviously see that the two groups of people were misunderstanding each other. I could see that. At that moment I wished I could interject some education about each other’s cultures. But due to our code of ethics, I could not. It bothered me for a long time and I decided to get more education on how to train people. I became a certified trainer for Performax materials in leadership, personality styles and listening skills. Now these training classes, I could teach to deaf participants. Plus I had special knowledge about both worlds. This class will not tell you what to do. There are no right or wrong answers. Instead you will be given communication options where you can decide which methods work for you. If you are interested in learning about the hearing work world, come to this class. I’m sure you’ve heard this story before. A Deaf person has been working a company for 15 years. A hearing co-worker joins that place and in two years they become their supervisor. We will explore some reasons why this might happen. Over 200 Deaf people have taken this class. All have benefited. If you would like to take this class, ask your supervisor. It’s economical and there are no interpreter fees. I hope to see you at the next class!
Successful Communication with Co-workers - This course used to be called Hearing Awareness Training. Here are a few testimonials from past participants:
“I have worked in the hearing work world for 20 years. I thought this class was going to be a joke. I wish the class would have been offered back in high school.
“I thought this class was going to be boring but I’m happy to report that it was fun! We played educational games and I could communicate in sign language.
“I feel all deaf people should attend this class. Spread the word! You will benefit greatly!”
Successful Communication with Co-workers
