Guidelines to become a Freelance Interpreter with ASLIS:
Certified interpreters: Anyone holding one of the following certifications: RID CI , CT, CSC, SC:L, CDI, NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master, NAD/ACCI IV or NAD/ACCI V, follow these steps:
Step 1: Contact ASLIS to request a contract packet.
Step 2: Fill out the contract forms and return to ASLIS with all the required documents (copy of certification, liability insurance, immunization records, etc.)
Step 3: Start accepting freelance jobs!
Pre-Certified Interpreters: Anyone holding an NAD III certification or who hasn't obtained certification yet, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Submit resume, cover letter and 2 letters of recommendation. The letters of recommendation must be from someone qualified to evaluate your interpreting skill (teacher, mentor, etc.) and directly relate to your interpreting skills. The letters of recomendation should specifically relate to your sign to voice and voice to sign skills.
Step 2: After we have received and approved the necessary paperwork, we will contact you to set up an evaluation. The evaluation is similar to a performance test you would take to get certified.
Step 3: When the evaluation is completed, you will be rated into one of 3 catagories. Some will be approved to start taking limited work.
